Acceptance and Commitment Therapy- Value Card Sort

I did acceptance and commitment therapy once, and I loved it- why?

Because we didn’t focus on my bad experiences but the focus was on filling my time and my mind with the good things I wanted in my life.

My therapist made me do an exercise about values. Gave me one hundred pieces of paper the size of fortune cookies inserts. I was suppose to pick FIVE out of at least one hundred little pieces of paper.

It was hard because all values seemed "important", so I did it in two or three goes, subdividing them into "more important" and "less important", and "not sure"—I don’t remember exactly—but you get the point. I ended up with five which I can't remember what I chose but surely I wrote them somewhere!

YOUR TURN

Now, for you who will try this:

I just found this great little video about values vs. goals, which will help you consider what we are talking about here in terms of values:

THE LISTS

I link a list of values to print/cut/play with instructions. I liked this!

VALUE SORT 100 CARDS

And then a more casual/less playful list to pick from by reading them on a list.

VALUE SORT LIST OF 60

Then, there is a cool website where you have at least three attempts to arrive at five values—it is fun and no printing is required.

These were my answers on that website- they don't collect your info so it's easy and safe!

I hope you have fun, and I’d love to hear about what were your five most precious values- at least on this day of your life- write the date!-  because everything changes, and eventually, they will be slightly different.

Enjoy!
